What is a Japan Rail Pass West (JR Pass West)?
The best way to enjoy your pleasant trip in Western Japan!
To visit various famous sightseeing locations, this pass allows unlimited use of designated trains operated by Japan Rail West.
(1) Kansai Area Rail Pass, which is primarily a local rail pass in and around the "Osaka" area.
(2) Sanyo Area Rail Pass, which includes the "bullet train". The Sanyo Area Rail Pass is the only pass which covers the Nozomi, one of the fastest trains in the world.
JR Pass, Kansai Area: for Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe Area, a good way to travel Kansai Metropolitan Area.
JR Pass, Sanyo Area: for Osaka-Okayama-Hiroshima-Hakata Area.

Who is eligible?
You are a foreign tourist visiting Japan from abroad for sight-seeing, under the entry status of "temporary visitor". 

Japanese citizens holding a Japanese passport will not be granted the "temporary visitor status" and will NOT be issued a JR West Pass.

  JR West Kansai Area Pass  

This pass allows unlimited use of the ordinary-class cars (including rapid-service and special rapid-service trains) in the Kansai area including Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Himeji, and other famous sightseeing locations.

Kansai Area Pass:
1. One-day and Two, Three and Four-day  (consecutive days) passes are available.
2. These passes allow unlimited travel, within the designated area, using non-reserved seats in ordinary-class cars on local trains operated by JR-West (including rapid service and special rapid service trains).
3. This pass can not be used for Shinkansen trains. When boarding limited-express and express trains other than Shinkansen trains, a surcharge ticket for these trains must also be purchased.

  JR West Sanyo Area Pass  

This pass can be used in the ordinary-class cars for including the 500 Service "Nozomi" and "Hikari Rail Star" Sanyo Shinkansen trains (reserved or non-reserved seats) while traveling in the Sanyo area to such famous sightseeing locations as Osaka, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Hakata.

Sanyo Area Pass:
1. Four-day and Eight-day (consecutive days) passes are available.
2. These passes allow unlimited use, within the designated area, of the following trains and transportation services operated by JR-West. "Nozomi", "HIkari", and "Kodama" Sanyo Shinkansen super express trains, "Haruka" limited express trains, ordinary-class cars on local trains (reserved and non-reserved seats), and the Miyajima ferry line in Hiroshima.

How to obtain a Japan Rail Pass West, JR West Pass?
You can purchase an Exchange Order prior to departure for Japan.  After you arrive in Japan, you turn in the Exchange Order to receive the actual JR West Pass at an applicable JR station that has a JR West Pass exchange office.
JR West exchange offices:
Kansai Airport Station, Kyoto Station, Shin-Osaka Station, Osaka Station, Sannomiya Station, Okayama Station, Hiroshima Station, Shimonoseki Station, Kokura Station, and Hakata Station.

How to reserve your seat assignment. 
Seat reservations can be made without additional payment (see details at the link below). Seat availability cannot be guaranteed otherwise. To make a reservation, apply at a Travel Service Center (View Plaza) or a reservation office (midori-no-madoguchi) at a JR West station. There, show your Pass, and obtain your reserved-seat ticket before boarding.  For more details, click here.
Validity Period
You must turn in your Exchange Order to obtain the actual JR West Pass within three(3) months from the date the Exchange Order was issued. Once the pass has a starting date written on it, the date cannot be changed.
