Japan Rail Pass West - JR Pass West Information

What is a Japan Rail Pass West (JR Pass West)?
The best way to enjoy your pleasant trip in Western Japan!
To visit various famous sightseeing locations, this pass allows unlimited use of designated trains operated by Japan Rail West.
(1) JR-West Pass, Kansai Area: Prices will be increasing from 4/1/15.for Shiga-Kyoto-Osaka-Kobe Area, a good way to travel Kansai Metropolitan Area.
(2) JR-West Pass, Kansai Wide Area Pass for Kansai Area: 5 consecutive days unlimited ride for Wakayama Area, Kinosaki Onsen Area, and Okayama Area from Osaka.

(3) JR-Sanyo-Shikoku-Kyushu Rail Pass: No Longer available after 3/31/15. Instead, Sanyo-San'in Area Pass 7 consecutive days is now available, and unlimited ride to Shiga-Kyoto- Osaka, Okayama, Hiroshima, Hagi-Izumo-Tottori, Yamaguchi, and Hakata instead. It covers Nozomi & Mizuho

(4) All Shikoku Rail Pass: Choice of Ordinary 2day, 3day, 4day, or 5day consecutive passes for all Shikoku - Kagawa, Tokushima, Ehime, and Kochi,

(5) Ise-Kumano Area Tourist Pass: 5 consecutive days unlimited Ordinary Car ride for Nagoya - Kiikatsuura, Taki - Toba. Limited Express Train, Rapid Train, Ordinary Train included Reserved Seats can be used up to 4 times, Also, it can be used the part of buses,  JPY10,500 for adult, & JPY5,250 for child

(6) *** Takayama-Hokuriku Area Tourist Pass: 5 consecutive days unlimited access to trains and bus for Takayama, Shirakawa-go, Kanazawa, popular hot springs and more from Nagoya or Osaka-Kyoto, JPY13,500 for adult, and JPY6,750 for child. The price will be increase JPY14,000 for adult, JPY7,000 for child from 10/1/16

(7) Limited Offer of Setouchi Area Pass (Sales Period 6/1/15 to 5/31/16), JPY16,000 for adult and JPY8,000 for child.  Please call us or e-mail us for more detail.

(8) JR West Passes like "Kansai - Hiroshima Area Pass," Hiroshima-Yamaguchi Area Pass, "San'in-Okayama Area Pass," " Kansai-Hokuriku Area Pass," and "Hokuriku Area Pass" will be available.

Who is eligible?
You are a foreign tourist visiting Japan from abroad for sight-seeing, under the entry status of "temporary visitor". 

Japanese citizens holding a Japanese passport will not be granted the "temporary visitor status" and will NOT be issued a JR West Pass.

  JR West Kansai Area Pass  

This pass allows unlimited use of the ordinary-class cars (including rapid-service and special rapid-service trains) in the Kansai area including Kyoto, Osaka, Kobe, Nara, Himeji, and other famous sightseeing locations.

Kansai Area Pass:
1. One-day and Two, Three and Four-day  (consecutive days) passes are available.
2. These passes allow unlimited travel, within the designated area, using non-reserved seats in ordinary-class cars on local trains operated by JR-West (including rapid service and special rapid service trains).
3. This pass can not be used for Shinkansen trains. When boarding limited-express and express trains other than Shinkansen trains, a surcharge ticket for these trains must also be purchased.

  JR West Sanyo-San'in Area Pass  

This pass can be used in the ordinary-class cars for including the 500 Service "Nozomi" and "Hikari Rail Star" Sanyo Shinkansen trains (reserved or non-reserved seats) while traveling in the Sanyo area to such famous sightseeing locations as Osaka, Okayama, Hiroshima, and Hakata.

Sanyo-San'in Area Pass:
1. Seven-day (consecutive days) pass is available.
  •  Sanyo-San'in Area pass is valid for unlimited travel in the valid area on the map.
  • ・ Valid trains are below (Reserved seats)
    • - Reserved seats on Sanyo-Shinkansen (between SHIN-OSAKA and HAKATA) 'NOZOMI, MIZUHO, HIKARI, SAKURA, KODAMA'
    • - Special Rapid Services, Rapid Services, and Local trains on JR-WEST Conventional lines

How to obtain a Japan Rail Pass West, JR West Pass?
You can purchase an Exchange Order prior to departure for Japan.  After you arrive in Japan, you turn in the Exchange Order to receive the actual JR West Pass at an applicable JR station that has a JR West Pass exchange office.
JR West exchange offices:
Kansai Airport Station, Kyoto Station, Shin-Osaka Station, Osaka Station, Sannomiya Station, Okayama Station, Hiroshima Station, Shimonoseki Station, Kokura Station, and Hakata Station.

How to reserve your seat assignment. 
Seat reservations can be made without additional payment (see details at the link below). Seat availability cannot be guaranteed otherwise. To make a reservation, apply at a Travel Service Center (View Plaza) or a reservation office (midori-no-madoguchi) at a JR West station. There, show your Pass, and obtain your reserved-seat ticket before boarding.  For more details, click here.
Validity Period
You must turn in your Exchange Order to obtain the actual JR West Pass within three(3) months from the date the Exchange Order was issued. Once the pass has a starting date written on it, the date cannot be changed.
